Epic will destroy Unreal Engine with its sixth version.
Now they announced how they are deprecating Blueprints and Actors, what do we get in exchange? Verse, UEFN total integration and AI Slop.
“If you don’t the new ecosystem like keep using UE5”, “There will be a new blueprint-like system”, “you can still use blueprint, it is just deprecated”, “blueprints are too hard to read, they end up like espaguetti”
Those are all the arguments from people defending Epic Games here.
- So you make people learn a fantastic tool as blueprints for years and now you have another language based on a game that many people do not even care, and the solution is to use an older version that will never get “finished”. That’s not a solution, thats Epic Game spitting to its creators.
- Why do we need another system, why it has to be based on verse and not use the one that we already have. And it has not been announced yet, Epic Games already threw a survey to UEFN creators, asking about what kind of visual-scripting they prefer, scratch-like or blueprint-like, so we might be getting the same or even scratch… I’m completely sure that I prototype faster using c++ than scratch, and much more faster with a blueprint-like system
- If it is deprecated it means that they are already planning to remove it, even if it takes 10 years to be removed completely from the engine, its already planned to be removed and we don’t even know what is coming instead of blueprints
- If you let blueprints as a espaguetti is your fault 100%, using good practices, comments, etc. you will make blueprints easier to read than anything else
Now I have a few questions
First of all, why?
Why do we have to change blueprints? it is an amazing feature, why do we have to use another system and why we don’t even know what’s that new system and if there will be even a new one.
The only reason that makes sense for me is that this is another way to try making fortnite the new Roblox. Why would you change blueprint by another blueprints? whats the point of it? They would probably want some bs scratch language into UE to attract kids into this environment. With AI also you can do real unoptimized bs but that seems fine from outside, a Roblox with AI integrated, wich doesn’t sounds good for me.
Finally, I might ask, can we stop it?
I was taught Unity at first… we all know what happened to Unity, and Unreal is going through the same path. Everybody sees at it and thinks about how bad Unity Engine Team did, and now, everybody will think about how bad Epic Games is going to do.
And what about the creators? They are the main affected, because executives don’t care about the engine or the creators, they just want to announce the most greedy, stupid, AI-powered actions so the stock rises, they sell and then they leave, leaving also destruction in the company that affects us all.
If we do not complain now, we will be forced at some point to work in worse conditions or directly even stop working with this engine, this should not be the way to proceed for Epic Games.
