Static Lights on Wall not appearing Smooth

I have a scene with base wall that comes with UE4 starter content and just a static point light and after building lights, the wall doesn’t appear to be as smooth as in stationary light results. there appears to be small block of shadow artifacts on the wall.

Please let me know what I am doing wrong

Hi ,

In the details panel for your the wall mesh you’ll want to adjust the lightmap resolution to be something higher. This should be in a power of two method when increasing lightmaps resolution (128, 256 , 512, 1024). Adjusting this up will give you a better resolution on the lightmap shadows that are being baked for this particular mesh.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

Thank you!

I did change the resolution to 256 and 512 but I am still getting those blocky artifacts.

Those artifacts are from the lightmap encoding technique. It’s optimized around indirect lighting, which doesn’t have such smooth gradients that direct lighting from Static lights do. Raising the lightmap resolution until they are small enough is the only solution for now.

Indeed. I have managed to get it looking better. Although not by very much.
