Some pieces in the "Blockout/Generic" set do not match the rest of the set

Summary

Some pieces in the “blockout/generic” sets are missing the “Dirt” effects present in their 4 layer base material. Particularly, I’ve noticed this with the base wall, half wall, quarter wall, and all floor/ceiling pieces. This makes them not match any other pieces in the set.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Search “GenericSet Wall A” in the content browser and place it down.
  2. Search “GenericSet Roofwall A A” in the content browser and place it down.
  3. Align the props to be next to each other, i.e. in my example image.
  4. Give both props the same wall texture data.

Expected Result

The walls should match perfectly in color.

Observed Result

The walls do not match - the roof wall is darker due to the dirt effect. This is very frustrating as it makes it impossible to build with these pieces and have a consistent look.

Additional Notes

To fix this, I’d recommend either making sure all pieces in the set have AO and Dirt enabled and match with the same settings, or to ensure that they match all other building pieces, disable those settings entirely on all of them.

Alternatively, if it’s something y’all think is worth doing, you could give us the option to modify those aspects of the material ourselves within the prop details, similar to how we can modify tree colors.

@Kiriousaurus, the team is asking for some information on how to repro this. Could you let us know all of the steps you take to repro and the location of “dirt”?

Hey! So the location of “dirt” is in the 4_Layer_Base_Material instance that Epic Games uses on most of their assets. They’re parameters within the material. As of the 2022/2023 version, “dirt” is automatically enabled on most new building assets, with the exception of the few that I mentioned and maybe some others.

We as creators cannot repro this, as it’s outside of our control - the only way to see the difference is to follow the steps I provided in the bug report to compare an old piece with a new piece, or one of the aforementioned outliers that don’t use the “dirt” material parameter (or an outdated version of the 4_Layer_Base_Material).

Thanks for getting back with me on this! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
