Hi, I’ve met a bug in Reality Capture which keeps me from calculating models. Basically the calculation fails with an “Unknown Error” (no details at all).
Some more information: I was using the time-limited version of RC before (where you could pay extend the license for 15 days or so) and I’ve switched to the PPI version.
The app mentioned getting rid of some cache files in a temp folder and I said okay.
After I launch the app the pictures alignment works fine and I can calculate a Preview model. But if I try to calculate a Normal model after that then I get the “Unknown Error”. And after that I cannot calculate anything and need to shut down the app.
I’ve tried completely uninstalling RC and reinstalling it, alas it didn’t fix the issue.
Here is a screenshot with the console visible after I calculated a Preview model, then failed to calculate a Normal model and then failed again to calculate a Preview model:
Oh okay we can see that there are corrupted depth maps causing this issue most likely. Please try clearing your RC cache and reconstruct again, meanwhile we are very sorry for this inconvenience.
There is an option in Workflow tab - settings - Clear cache - Clear button.
There also is an option to Clear cache on exit - older than “X” days/weeks/months, this can nicely save your disk space, but take this just as a tip, to fix your issue use the steps above.
Hey Erik, I just cleared the cache and attempted to calculate the model again to no avail (same error as before):
More information:
After that error I clicked on the RC icon in the top left corner and chose New Project. After which I got the usual confirmation dialog asking me if I wanted to save the current project first. I clicked on No and the the dialog disappeared. But the same project remained open.
In other words it seems I can’t do a New Project after the error. I would expect the scene to be cleared when doing a New Project but instead I have to close RC and relaunch it.
Then I am afraid you would have to clear the cache and make a new project with a new alignment and reconstruction. It is very strange but I will surely report this to our devs, if you could give us exact repro steps to the error it could help us a lot.
Mmh. So I tried calculating a model from a different set of pictures and this time I didn’t get any error…
… But after the model is calculated RC refuses to export the model:
(I don’t even see the price preview in the top right corner, which I believe is supposed to be there)
Also, RC does not let me save the project. I can navigate to the folder, give the project a name and click Save but in the end nothing get saved at all.
I think the issue most certainly comes from the fact that I was using RC with the previous license system and the new PPI is conflicting with it. Like the previous install of RC messed up the new one (although I’ve already uninstalled RC and reinstalled it).
This is starting to be a big problem. Could you please tell me how to completely wipe RC from my system (including cache, temp files, registry entries, etc.) so that I can reinstall it from scratch?
Alright I’ve completely uninstalled RC, deleted all the cache files, deleted the remaining folders in Program Files and AppData, and I’ve manually removed the CapturingReality key entries from Window’s registry.
I think those were causing the problems as I’ve reinstalled RC and so far it looks like it’s working now!
