There is some odd corruption within the terrain data of this landscape causing the terrain tools to behave strangely in one area.
Smooth and flatten do not work as expected in a specific area.
It is most notable with flatten, the bad area will not equalize to another area, but the bad area can equalize others down to it.
Playing with the area by adding flat ramps and other things seems to make smooth work again but not flatten.
To reproduce, import the provided heightmap to a new project with default settings.
The affected area is at (X=-6656.000000,Y=-4608.000000,Z=-3072.000000)
Hey Cardin, I believe this might be a user error, I see your Flatten mode is set to “Lower Only” and that’s what it’s doing, it looks like it’s working fine. Have you tried changing that to “Both” and see if the issue still exists?
My problem was on the layers, when I turned off the visibility of the other layer (roads), my problem was solved.
I just left the main layer (terrain) visible and voilá!
But thanks anyways!
Hi there, sorry for the late response.
I don’t know if you found a fix already but what I think I did at the time was hide (and maybe lock) the other layers, and had to make sure that I was working on the correct layer when editing.
I think that was “my” solution. ( Solved - Landscape flatten not working correctly - #8 by Perez-PSLusa )
That is a very huge and ambitious project that I have in mind, and I work alone so I left it in standby for now. 3 months now without working on that project, but I’m almost certain that this was the solution.
Hi, thanks for getting back. I eventually found a kind of workaround. On another forum somewhere (I don’t remember) I read that a person had several layers on his terrain for roads, ocean, etc. He discovered that by toggling the “Eye” of one of his layers, it kind of resets the tool to working properly.
For me as I was working, anytime it started acting incorrectly, I would toggle off my roads layer, watch the topology change, and then turn it back on, wait for the topology to return, and then The flatten tool worked as expected.
Hi,
“Toggling the eye” – that’s what I meant when I said “hide the other layers.” LMAO
English is not my native language, so I apologize for any confusion.
But the important thing is finding a solution and we both did.
