[SOLVED] 360 image (inverting normals on sphere)

Hello Everyone,

I use the Insta 360 pro camera for VR media creation. I’m taking an online tutorial and the book suggest inverting the normals on the sphere.

When I go to flip the normals button the flip button is disabled (or perhaps unavailable) and I can’t flip the normals.

The double sided method works but I don’t need the exterior of the mesh reflecting the media. I’m assuming this will be especially costly with 8K resolution video. Any guidance?

Lastly the projection of the image looks bad double sided. I’m hoping this is resolved once I can figure out how to invert the normals. If there is no easy way to do this in UE I might try to create a basic sphere in Maya, flip the normals there, and increase the sections of the sphere. Perhaps the sphere in UE cannot accomodate 8k sphereical? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

If you tick ‘Show Engine Content’ in the view options of the asset browser and go to /Engine/EditorMeshes/AssetViewer you should find a static mesh named Sphere_inversenormals that may be useful.

Problems solved at least on the image portion. I created the Mesh in Maya (with much higher detail than default sphere) inverted the normals in Maya ant it works better than the default sphere once imported and image used as single side mesh.
