Soft raytraced shadows on hair

I have a scene lit with a single sun (directional light), and when the sky is overcast I increase the source angle to soften the shadows. It seems that hair on a character (a groom) doesn’t support soft ray traced shadows, and its shadow remains sharp. Has anyone come across this and is there anything I can do to solve it?

which engine version are you using? in 5.1.1 it works. i only tested haircards tho, not geometry hair, if that’s what you’re using. i tried masked, translucent on default lit and hair shading. no issues.

Ah thanks for checking! - I’m on 5.1.1, but using groom assets rather than cards.
