Smooth shaded - Flat shaded

Hi!
From C4D I have imported a Smooth shaded object to Unreal.
The problem is every time I put more then one UV map on the object,
it shows up as flat shaded.

Any tip on a solution?

I think so, is it possible to see if the object has any smoothing groups more than in the viewport?
No there is no difference when importing with Compute Normals.

I can even import 2 copies of the same object at the time, the first with 1 UV and the other with 2 UV sets. The first one gets smooth shaded. But not the other one.

By flat shaded do you mean it has no smoothing groups? If so, are you enabling Calculate Normals in import settings?

This looks like a known issue with C4D imports but i guess there is a solution. Check out this thread: Cinema4D to UE4 - Issues and solutions? - Content Creation - Unreal Engine Forums

I wanted to add here that there is a known issue with C4D R16, which may be part of the problem if you have it. You can read about it in this post: https://answers.unrealengine.com/questions/32686/c4d-smoothing-groups-inconsistent.html

TLDR; R16 is not exporting smoothing groups correctly with it’s FBX. Older versions appeared to work OK. This is not a bug with UE4 and the issue has been reported to Maxon.

Ok. Thanks! That explains the problem.
I have taken one step back, using R15.
The problem appears to remain even there, I will try to install a even older version to see if it helps.

Hi Tim, as I’ve already stated in the thread that you pointed mattias to, older versions of C4D, (R15) do NOT work ok, they used to, but that is no longer the case.
