Title: Issues with Sketchup to Unreal Engine Import - Need Help!
Message:
Hello everyone,
I work in architecture and use Sketchup for modeling. When I export directly from Sketchup to Unreal Engine, the mesh comes in all “broken” into hundreds of pieces. While I could explode each block in Sketchup and optimize the file afterward, the time it would take is extensive due to the quantity of projects I need to handle.
My current workaround is to export to Twinmotion, where the Datasmith file comes grouped by material, significantly reducing the number of assets. However, I face problems during re-imports, such as materials reverting to Sketchup configurations, crashes, and more.
My questions for the community are:
- Is there a way within Unreal Engine to receive Datasmith in the same manner as Twinmotion, with everything grouped by material? If so, how can I achieve this?
- How are re-imports affected by this approach? Are there known issues I should be aware of when reimporting Datasmith files in this way?
I appreciate any guidance or suggestions you can provide!
Thank you!
