Simple Blend with Substrate Vertical Layer?

I’m trying to use the Substrate Vertical Layer node in Unreal Engine 5.5.4 to create a simple blend between a top and bottom material.

I’ve plugged two different colored Substrate Slabs into the “Top Material” and “Base Material” inputs.

When I try to control the “Top Thickness” with a Scalar Parameter (value 0 to 1), I don’t get a blend; instead, one material (the top one) just completely covers the other.

How do I get a simple, uniform blend using the “Top Thickness” input?
It seems like a basic function, but it’s not working as expected.
