Should I work my way through C++ primer before attempting projects within UE4?

I am a novice programmer. I am studying C++ primer as of right now; however, I am wondering whether or not it is appropriate for me to delve into simple projects within Unreal simultaneously to this study of C++.

What do you think? How good should I get at C++ and programming in general before attempting projects in UE4?

Thank you very much.

There’s no reason to wait, in fact the primer book will help you as it’s a good reference to control structures and other syntax you’ll need. You don’t need to konw all of C++ to do gameplay programming in UE4.

Awesome, this is the insight I needed.

Ironically I do have to wait though, at least for now. When I try to start a UE4 c++ project, it gives me the error ‘failed to create project files.’ Do you know how to solve this error? I’m using VSE13.

Is your Visual Studio setup?

If you don’t have it, get the community edition fre here: Visual Studio link

Here’s a link for C++ tutorials: UE4 C++ Introduction

Oh man, thanks for the links. The community edition is way better than I thought. I can’t wait to get started.
