I’m using Raytracing with UE4.25.
There is a sharp shadow on the clearcoat material as in the image.
The material in the image is Car paint material from the automotive materials pack
It seems that this happens when the value of Roughness is made larger than 0.
Is there any way to smooth out these shadows?
Any help appreciated.
Thank you.
The real question is, do you get this on a sphere in the editor viewport?

Thank you for the question. The image shows the viewport of the material instance, but the same result is obtained in the editor viewport.
As RyanCowley says, it’s a non-tiling texture…
Hey there!
I have a guess that this might be to do with a lack of seamless texturing, maybe use an editing software to make the UV seamless! Give that a shot and see if it helps out.
(also take ClockworkOcean’s advice and try it on an actual item in the editor.)
Thanks.

Thank you for your answer.
The same results were achieved with the UV seamless mesh. The mesh in the image is a basic UE4 mesh. The results are the same for all other meshes.
By the way, setting the Source Angle value of Directional Light to a higher value did not solve the problem.

I’m sorry if I didn’t understand your meaning…
Even if I don’t use the textures, the result is the same. Also, the UV is seamless.
Which engine version do you have?

I installed and used UE4.25.2 but this problem was never solved…
Is there a problem in your PC and UE?.
I took the first person template project. Enabled ray tracing and put your material on a sphere. No problems.
What else have you changed.

Thank you for checking your project.
I created first person template project and enabled ray tracing and put the material as you do but the problem was never solved…
Hmmm, sorry. I’m all out of ideas…
