Big game tech is usually unveiled and released around GDC. I expect to hear nothing about UE5 then have a preview and documentation dropped out of nowhere following Epic’s GDC conference. Same thing with Metahuman.
That could be the case but July isn’t exactly early 2021 so I don’t think it would be their target date. The typical GDC dates in March would, but they’ve delayed it until July due to Covid. I’d guess we see a preview build before then.

I’m definitely not excited. Finishing features in UE4 and fixing bugs first would be much better.
Still, is UE5 not just same as UE4 just with mesh/polygon streaming(Nanite), Lumen GI, some cleanups of ancient code, FP64 support and that’s it?
I just cannot find it just now but i believe i saw this in Unreal YT and in Twitter. If i find i post or someone else remembers this more accurately.

If verse should replace blueprint visual scripting (btw: bp system was great direction), i’m definitely out… I have still headache, when i am comparing times and productivity when i remembering uscript, or lua in cryengine… Learning something in blueprints so that I can throw it out the window when I finally start releasing something in it … Hell no! (In the visual scripting I have better overview about overall vision, while the code cannot be said that way).
Thats another sad news, if it will be only verse, grrr…
That’s not gonna happen IMHO, BP visual scripting will stay for sure and if “Verse” is coming, it will be another scripting option for Unreal.
I hope UE5 will be old gen GPU friendly. (geForce 900 Series, geForce 10 Series)
I love UE4 but I have to admit that maintaining performance as new versions go is not easy,
for me the adoption or not of UE5 will be based on performance, not on new features.
