VXGI is always been not so good solution as it is closed solution and no one can upgrade and customize it. Lets hope Lumen makes that old VXGI obsolete one and for all. I remember that info from couple years back, dont know if GameWorks has changed now.
Hi guys, is there some more info about Lumen? It looks so good but we have only seen it in a natural environment and I’m a bit sceptical if it would handle man made environment and some architectural details or thin geometry without giving some light leaks or maybe looking too smooth like some cheap trick. Can I read somewhere about the tech behind it and some possible limitations or is this a novel approach to GI?
@Amanda.Schade when will we get a preview build of ue5?
it is not hard to learn. that is what youtube is for and the ue4 live streams.
I started learning current unreal engine around 4.2. I know most of its systems (mastered some). This thing (UE4) is huge. Learning to do something in it is not that hard. However mastering all of that, knowing all quirks is much harder.
Oh, It just mind-blowing, I really liked the wallpapers, and would like to use on my laptop.
Know that this is a very powerful vantage point to be in. There are those in the 3D community who are completely befuddled by this engine, but more, are too proud, or maybe anxious, to learn. The fact that you are aware of your current knowledge limits only opens and streamlines your ability to take your knowledge base further.
Problem with unreal engine is that for single person this is just too much to handle (and epic is pushing updates and new stuff just as fast as i can learn them with no time to do much more).
Keeping up with all new things just to not loose what i know is as much as i can do. I would love to get in team with 2-3 persons and create some minimal indie game. Sadly everybody wants to make mmorpg or just disappears after a month.
Currently I am pondering if i should do some tiny game in godot or some scene in unreal (just to have fun with new features).
@EntrpriseCustomr Please do not delete the post. Instead of deleting edit them.
well put! i agree totally. but if someone focuses on 1 part at a time they can master it all <3
I know how to play guitar and it is easy.
piano is even easier.
unreal engine is easy compaired to other engines. you just need to break it down and learn each part 1 by 1. if you think you going to master it all at the same time then no.
you need to start with the basics of the ui, get to know that each part. lots of other engines keep ui elements on screen that can’t be used in each mode i guess due
to lazy coders saying eh we won’t hide elements that can’t be used at that moment we will just give them a prompt that they can’t use it cluttering up the ui.
unreal has streamlines every window to include what can be used in each window etc. there are so many resources for unreal engine its not hard at all with the thousands of
free assets, the live streams, the youtube videos and this forum and ue4 learning portal. you just got to have a focus, weather it be animation, blueprints, replication, learn each system 1 by one and soon you see a pattern as lots of features require the same stuff. figure out your task first. then once you have a task, search tutorials about that subject.
it can be easy as 1 2 3 if you put the time in to learn it. it is not hard like blender, maya, max, substance, 3d coat or other software because it can be broken down into topics. and learned easy since its ui is not cluttered up like other softwares are.
And “commitment needed” is what “future indie devs” lack mostly. I am so tired of people wanting to team up, having ideas for huge game, then disappearing 6 months later when they see how much work it is.
i hope we can bake objects without lightmap in ue5
But my question is when is the Unreal 5 Engine going to be released I want it for my project need it petty bad was hoping there was a pre release SDK
after watching the 51world demo, i ended up saying ‘i, umm, hmmmm’… i still have to wait and see if my equipment will handle ue5, and if i can downsize it to my needs… the only thing i really need is control rig finished so i can fine tune animations, cloth with ucx (i think) collision, and a stable engine of course… i can do the rest for my simple anims
ue5 is on a whole new level now… watch out for that double edged sword…
Does This Technology Software Require A Whole New Level Of Storage Management, Since This is The Only Way You Can Do It Right? Or Did You Guys Actually Discover A WHOLE New Level And Way Of Processing Technological Information? Nice Job Guys!
I was wondering will ue5 be a completely new engine? Or will it be built on top of existing unreal engine?
From what I gather, it is not a wholesale replacement.
please make modern ui for ue5
Based on the current information, I don’t think the UI is going to change. UE5 is more like a revamped version of UE4 with fancy new features. Again, I’m not sure but its just my thought.
I do wish for an advanced Slate Editor though, where we can customize the theme and stuff.
