Shadows detached from objects

Hello:

As you can see in the attached image, the shadows don’t start from objects, so it looks like the walls, i.e., are floating. How can I fix that? Thank you.

This seems to be a common phenomenon. One of the weaknesses of Lightmass, Im afraid.
(Correct me if Im wrong…)

Are you using baked lighting or dynamic lighting? Your lightmap resolution may be too low.

Decrease smoothing. Increase resolution.

If it’s baked lighting you need to increase the lightmap resolution. If it’s dynamic then you need to adjust the Shadow Bias setting of the light

Hi Korbu,

You can find both methods that Darthviper mentioned on our Wiki Lighting Guide linked above.

There are also other common issues with lighting there as well that may be helpful.

Thank you, everybody for your answers. As I’m newbie in UE I was looking for the lightmap resolution and Shadow Bias and found a “dynamic shadow distance stacionary light” variable. I changed it and the shadows now behave as they should (see attached image). Any way I´ll try too yours recomendations. Thank very much again.
