Steps to Reproduce
- add a basic cube
- add a rectangle light, position it over the cube
- use a day sequence device to disable other lights (Other lights mask the issue)
Expected Result
The expected result is a cube lit by an overhead light, with normal shadows.
Observed Result
The actual result is severe shadow banding along sides perpendicular to the light, extreme shadows, sometimes weird geometric banding.

Additional Notes
The first image illustrates the problem --even generic FN props appear to be dipped in ink. The second image shows the desired outcome (standard medium settings). The lower image shows how the banding can affect a flat plane or a generic FN wall.
This problem started with the 41.00 update. I’m not sure why it isn’t being reported by others because it’s easy to replicate and any islands with rectangle lights should be experiencing it. When playing you notice a severe degradation in graphic quality.
Both the material settings and the mesh density have no affect. It’s something that has changed within the shader model.
