My scene has black noise, what could be the issue?
You have antialiasing disabled, you need to enable it, preferably using TAA or TSR if you want to minimize the high frequency noise
Thank you! If anti-aliasing is enabled, character movement may appear blurry. Is anti-aliasing the only option available?
Depending on what is actually causing the noise you may be able to adjust the settings of that feature. This looks like the typical noise you get from Lumen in which case you could increase the final gather quality of Lumen in your post process volume.
Realistically though… yes, antialiasing is probably your only good option.
Actually it looks like Lumen’s AO effect (which I assume is the issue here) can be disabled:
r.Lumen.ScreenProbeGather.ShortRangeAO 0
optionally you can also replace it with SSAO (above cvar needs to be set as well):
r.Lumen.DiffuseIndirect.SSAO 1
This may be slightly more expensive than using Lumens short range AO
Thank you. I’ll go and try.
Hello. My Unreal version is 5.1 and I cannot find r.Lumen.ScreenProbeGather.ShortRangeAO.
Ahhh that’s unfortunate, might be a setting they exposed in 5.2… in 5.1 your only option may indeed be to use antialiasing to cover it. If you can wait, I’d suggest you try upgrading after 5.2 releases (should go without saying, but you want to upgrade a COPY of your project, not the original, in case something goes wrong)
