I’ve been wanting to get into making shaders. But I saw that lots of people are having trouble using UE4 for that. Are there any plans to make the whole process smoother? :\
If you’ve done any work in customizing the shaders, would you say it’s not that bad for a total newbie to learn with or would I be setting myself up for failure?
You can pretty much make any type of shader pretty easily with the node based material editor. A lot of tutorials and guides exist for UE4, and a lot of UDK guides still apply.
I was told for the look I wanted I’d need a fragment shader. can i do that with the material editor? I’ve been using the material editor to make materials- i didn’t know it could handle making shaders. or do you mean you make a material with shader-type logic nodes in it?
I was watching this and at one point he says something along the lines of “While all of this is great for testing things, before you really get into development, you should contact a graphics guy so you don’t do things that slow everything down.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGIKrD7uHu8
