Severe FPS / Performance Issues in Published UEFN Maps Since Update 42.10

Summary

Hello,

Since the recent Fortnite/UEFN 42.10 update, we have been experiencing severe performance issues in two of our published maps.

Affected Islands:

ZB Training
Island Code: 3852-7380-9907

Crosshair Practice
Island Code: 6043-7919-0960

Before the 42.10 update, both maps were running normally. Since the update, however, we have seen extremely poor FPS and significant lag during normal gameplay.

The ZB Training map appears to be affected especially badly, but we are experiencing the issue in both maps.

In some cases, players are dropping to approximately 15 FPS, making the maps extremely difficult to play. This is not just a small performance decrease — the gameplay becomes noticeably choppy and, for many players, essentially unplayable.

We have also seen drastic drops in our analytics/charts since this began, and we believe the performance problems are causing players to leave the maps much earlier than normal.

One very unusual behavior we discovered may help identify the issue:

While I was recording content inside our Crosshair Practice map, my FPS was extremely low. I went into our 1v1 section and eliminated one of the bots.

Immediately after eliminating the bot, my FPS returned to normal.

The performance remained normal for approximately 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes, and then the severe FPS problem returned.

I eliminated a bot again, and once again, the performance temporarily returned to normal.

We were able to repeat this behavior multiple times.

This makes us believe there may have been a regression involving a device, AI/bot system, or another gameplay system introduced or affected by the 42.10 update.

Summary:

  • Issue began after the 42.10 update.
  • Both published islands are affected.
  • ZB Training is experiencing especially severe performance problems.
  • FPS can drop to approximately 15 FPS.
  • Performance problems are affecting actual players and our island analytics.
  • Eliminating a bot in Crosshair Practice temporarily restores normal FPS.
  • The FPS improvement lasts roughly 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes before the problem returns.
  • Eliminating another bot temporarily fixes the problem again.
  • We did not experience this level of performance degradation before 42.10.

We would really appreciate any help determining what changed in 42.10 or identifying which device/system could be causing this.

If there are additional profiling logs, UEFN information, session data, or reproduction information that would help the Epic team investigate this, we are happy to provide it.

Thank you.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Load into Crosshair Practice using island code 6043-7919-0960.

  2. Begin playing normally and monitor FPS. Since the 42.10 update, we experience an immediate and severe FPS/performance drop, sometimes reaching approximately 15 FPS.

  3. Go to the 1v1 section of the map.

  4. Eliminate one of the bots in the 1v1 area.

  5. Immediately after eliminating the bot, observe that FPS/performance significantly improves and returns closer to normal.

  6. Continue playing for approximately 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes.

  7. Observe that the severe FPS issue returns.

  8. Eliminate another bot and observe that FPS/performance temporarily improves again.

The severe FPS issue can also be observed by simply loading into our ZB Training island (3852-7380-9907), where the performance problem is even more noticeable.

Expected Result

Both islands should maintain normal and stable FPS during gameplay, as they did prior to the 42.10 update.

Players should not experience severe FPS drops simply from loading into or playing the islands, and eliminating a bot should not cause a major temporary change in overall map performance.

The maps should remain consistently playable without requiring players to eliminate a bot in order to temporarily restore normal FPS.

Observed Result

After loading into the affected islands, FPS drops significantly and gameplay becomes extremely laggy. In some cases, performance drops to approximately 15 FPS.

In Crosshair Practice, going to the 1v1 section and eliminating a bot temporarily restores FPS to normal or near-normal levels. After approximately 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes, the severe FPS drop returns. Eliminating another bot temporarily restores performance again.

The issue began after the 42.10 update and is affecting both Crosshair Practice (6043-7919-0960) and ZB Training (3852-7380-9907), with ZB Training appearing to be affected even more severely.

Additional Notes

This issue has been observed repeatedly since the 42.10 update and is having a significant impact on both islands.

We have also seen noticeable drops in our player analytics since the performance issue began, and players are much less likely to continue playing when the map is running at extremely low FPS.

The most unusual part of the issue is that eliminating a bot can temporarily restore normal performance. Because of this, we suspect there may be a regression involving AI/bots, a device, or another system introduced or affected by 42.10.

We are happy to provide video recordings, performance captures, session information, or any additional data needed to help reproduce and investigate the issue.
