Every week I ask this question. No one knows this answer. This is my weekly attempt at getting an answer.
I use a png cloud texture and put it on a 2d plane. I use blend mode masked. It has hard edges and casts hard shadows. Same with trees. RGB goes into base col, alpha into opacity.

How can I use soft-edged pngs to cast soft edged shadows (in Blender it’s Alpha blend vs Alpha hashed for hard/soft shadows).

And I think this might be answered in the above, how do I take my hard edged cloud and vary its opacity. I’ve even tried making the png semi transparent in photoshop but the alpha is just binary. Either transparent or not. I use it to make custom shadow shapes but often the shaodows are super dark.
