Screen Space Reflections - 4.8

Hey guys,
Is anyone else not seeing screenspace reflections on translucent surfaces? I have the checkbox turned on in the shader and i tried it on an opaque surface and that seems to work fine. It’s only the translucent surfaces. Am I missing something? Thanks

Hi Jacob,

You’ll want to make sure that you’re Lighting Mode is set to Surface Translucency Volume in your material properties to enable SSR for translucency.

Hi Tim!

By the way, SSR isn’t supported at Mac, is it (or at least, is supposed to be)?!

Looks like it is kind of glitchy – I was experiencing the same problem with identical settings. The problem fixed itself when I set opacity to “1”. Once the reflections appeared, I was then able to change the opacity to any value I wanted.

Blend Mode: Translucent
Screen Space Reflections: ON
Lighting Mode: Surface Translucency Volume

Speaking with one of the devs this something we hope to support, but it’s just not there yet due to Shader Model 5 (SM5) limitations on Mac.

If you are running Bootcamp with Windows you will be able to use SSR Translucency on your Mac when enabled in the translucent material.

I hope this helps.

Tim

This worked great with that simple lighting change in the material you suggested. Thanks so much!

Does SSR work for PS4? Right now the shader isn’t compiling, so we’ve disabled it.

Hi…
Please; can someone post a captured image for this material showing the whole setup in the Material Editor…!!?
Thanx

All that needs to be setup in the material is that it’s using the Translucent Blend Mode, the Lighting Mode is set to Surface Translucency Volume, and the check box in this same details panel is set to “Screen Space Reflections” checked.

Beyond that there is no much more to it. The Material in my setup is a simple Color plugged into Base color with a roughness of 0 and opacity of 0.98.
