Rubberbanding when a Movement Modulator is applied after Player Movement Settings

Summary

Hi everyone, hope you’re doing well! We ran into a bug with Player Movement Settings and would appreciate help from the team finding a solution.

Summary

A player with a Player Movement Settings device applied rubberbands while moving after a Movement Modulator is activated on them. Switching to a class with a Movement Speed Multiplier other than 1.0 causes the same issue.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a new empty island.
  2. Place a Player Movement Settings device and a Movement Modulator (Speed other than 1.0).
  3. Apply the Player Movement Settings device to the player.
  4. Activate the Movement Modulator on the same player.
  5. Move.

Expected: smooth movement at the new speed.
Actual: the player rubberbands while moving.

Details

  • Repro rate: 100%
  • Version: Fortnite Release-42.40 (CL 59343437)
  • Platform: PC

Workaround

Activating the modulator before applying the Player Movement Settings device avoids it. We can’t use this in our game: it needs RemoveFrom + AddTo on every speed change, and each call costs 17-30 ms of server time.

Possibly related: FORT-995669.

Thanks a lot, any guidance is appreciated!
