RTX GPU and the vanishing raytrace - MY GPU HELL!

Hi,

I’ve a rtx2080ti from Zotac and have been using the card for about just over a year now…
my machine has no integrated GPU only this one.

the last month ive been getting increasing issues, slow performance etc and occasional crashes with UE4.25.3/4

now, i cant exactly remember when but the issues became more prevalent and frequently occurring with DX12 /D3D12RHI crashes more than id like… so i started testing out both the latest and older studio drivers, and even a couple of game ready ones [everytime uninstalling in safemode with DDU and blocking windows from installing what it wanted from restart by disconnecting the net.]

None of these cured the annoying issues and in fact seems to have made things worse…
now… on all of my existing ue4 projects with raytrace enabled crash immediately on startup with an 'Assertion Failed - D3D12Buffer.cpp - lline 93.

this issue was raised here but as yet got no attention, so just posting for reference of the full error.

[this is also attached]

So I check the DefaultEngine.ini configuration file and by removing the below line and save the file and then open the project it opens no problem.

[DefaultGraphicsRHI=DefaultGraphicsRHI_DX12]

I’ve created new blank rtx projects from scratch within the ue4 editor and the same things occurred. crash on project creation/.load

Again i tried more drivers to see if one of these would fix my issue…
but alas, no…

The last few days I have downloaded a trial version of Vray 5 by ChaosGroup [again raytrace visualisation render software], however even though my card is listed in the windows device manager and can be seen by Nvidia Inspector, nvidia-smi.exe [attached] and dxdiag etc… Vray also does not have any knowledge of the GPUs existence/presence!

Thought id look in BIOS and in doing so I see no mention of my GPU…
which I found odd seeing as windows 10 sees it under Device Manager!

So just now, I tried in safe mode with DDU to remove the driver for new GPU installation. Restarted in safe mode and then again into normal mode and the card again is listed in Device Manager but neither Vray/UE4 see its raytrace capability.

Can anyone help with this as I’m seriously considering going back to pencil and paper!

thanks
Dan
