Here’s an idea. May be wild, but wow, would it open up a whole world of awesome!
I’ve been working with low budget TV for over a decade, once in a while I happen to be part of a team doing live broadcast or streaming. Some of these productions required graphics on top of the video, such as a lower thirds, timer or keeping score.
There are a few low cost software solutions out there, but few are good at making it easy to adjust the templates without being the rocket scientist who wrote the software. And you almost certainly need to know some programming language in order to go the next step modifying the templates completely.
I think the blueprints in Unreal would be ideal to make it possible for people to create their own set of bugs, gadgets and user interface while retaining a professional quality output for broadcasts.
I’d like to shed some light on what’s needed to make it work in terms of video production.
Preferably video output through video cards such as Blackmagic or AJA.
Preferably two channels - **RGB **and Alpha
The two feeds will be connected to a video mixer and the alpha channel (key) will remove anything not necessary in the RGB (fill) channel, giving endless possibilities to create great on-screen graphics for sports, events and more.
A second, less optimal option, render my wishes unnecessary; make a green background and key the image in the mixer.
Now, I understand this won’t be top priority, or might not even be possible, but I’d like to hear if there’s other video/TV folks out there who see the possibility too, and would like to discuss this further.
With the tools available in Unreal it’s a very ideal software to create just about anything you could wish for!
