My view on indie game dev. Start small then cut your idea in half. Then do that as game.

However, unreal does not go well with mobile games (apk file size is too much).

Currently doing some very simple rts game in space (really really simple), but this thing keeps growing.

My next game will be something small, but finding idea will be reversed:

  • first find niche market (better be big fish in small pond than tiny fish in MMORPG_RTS_FPS_WITH_DINOSAURS_AND_JETPACKS)
  • when i have such niche market that is starving for more gmaes (like VR game that does not make you dizzy) I will try to get idea.

So market/niche first then idea for tiny game.

Hi @Nawrot. I appreciate your reply. I agree with this statement “Start small then cut your idea in half. Then do that as game.” My version: “Start small then cut your idea by 90%. Then do that as Tech Demo.” LOL!

Currently doing some very simple rts game in space (really really simple), but this thing keeps growing.

Simple RTS / 2 = Over Ambitious. RTS is one of the most complex of genres in my opinion. But, I also have a desire to develop a FP RTS like Battlezone 1998. Once it can do what BZ98 does, I’ll expand on its features/mechanics til its a MMORPG_RTS_FPS_WITH_DINOSAURS_AND_JETPACKS.

For now, I’m starting with a FP Shooter. Navigate Mazes, Shoot Monsters, Grab Magic Power Ups. I kickstarted with a Full Featured Blueprints-based Multiplayer FPS Template and a few others from the Marketplace that have common features I want, and swap out stuff as needed.

Why? Because I need something playable to keep me entertained and motivated as I develop. This also allows me to focus on developing niche subsystems. I call them niche because thats the only type of player that would enjoy my weird creation.

I don’t expect BIG sales.

Ive think ive finally settled on a game concept. Returnal meets Starship Troopers in Stars & Tentacles.

STARS & TENTACLES Visual GDD think Returnal meets Starship Troopers

Building on top of FPS Multiplayer Template. Rebuilt my player character to use new Motion Matching Animation Tech.

I think I found a solution for GASP + Flight
