Requesting advice - Auto blended landscape layers with procedural foliage

I am attempting to use the procedural foliage system with my auto blended landscape material. However, as one would anticipate, because the layers are auto blended I am unable to specify which paint layers to generate foliage on.

With the above screenshots as an example, I would ideally like to generate some kind of mask from the auto painted forest floor material which can then be fed into additional landscape layers to use a proxies with the procedural foliage system. I cannot figure out how to do this, however, as every online tutorial seems to either use manual layer painting or doesn’t go as far as the procedural foliage generation step.

Anyone have any alternate solutions and/or know of a video which covers this?

Another way to do this is to add foliage generation per layer into the auto material. You can add another layer blend, add the names of the layers you want and then connect to the landscape grass output node. Example attached - I use the 1 vector so I have control over what was generated in the grass as well as if I wanted anything different on the rock layer.

Thank you! I’ll have a play around with this idea.
