Request for Improved FAB Integration with Substance Painter Models

Hello,

Manual migration is challenging for those who have uploaded their models using Substance Painter. I have been advised to migrate all my models manually because FAB does not accept the Substance Painter DAE format. However, even when I perform the migration manually, FAB does not provide the same results as the Sketchfab browser and displays errors such as “failed to import textures.” see attached Images

Is there a way to make my models look the same as in Sketchfab? What do you sugest in terms of improving my model on fab? Maybe you should try to migrate one of my model and see where is the issue? link to sketchfab model MOSES 9000 - Buy Royalty Free 3D model by Bartholomew Koziel (@bkoziel) [b11b1f2] - Sketchfab Store

My personal advice on the state of fab is that I respectfully suggest that you postpone the integration of Sketchfab into FAB until it reaches the same quality and functionality.

This message is a continuation of my previous post, but I decided to create a new topic as I feel my concerns have been overlooked.

Hi there. We’re looking into this to see if there’s a way that we can accommodate migration of DAE models. We’ll keep you posted.

Hi,

It won’t work! However, there is an easier and less expensive solution than rewriting the entire Sketchfab engine from scratch. How about integrating parts of an existing Sketchfab website into the current Fab layout? This way you can continue to develop the improved version of Fab (sketchfab) on a beta test server, giving you more time to perfect it through testing?

Hi @MegaRunMan, have you tried to manually add the textures through the 3D viewer?

Hi,

Yes, I did, and I noticed that the Fab 3D viewer suffers from a large amount of textures and complex models where the Sketchfab 3D viewer doesn’t have this problem. From a logical perspective, Sketchfab has benefited from 10 years of testing by various artists, which has allowed them to perfect their platform. It will likely take at least 5 years for the Fab 3D Viewer to reach a similar level of quality.

Cheers
