Rendering polygon hair with anisotropic lighting

Is this going to be making a comeback, or even possible with the current version of the engine? I’ve reached a point in my project where I’m beginning to work on character hair and there doesn’t seem to be a way to get the anisotropic specular. Is there an alternative method that people are using right now? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
