Has anyone had an issue with PNG panoramas not displaying on Quest 2? I found a YouTube video series about exporting 3D panoramas/videos for Quest 2 that was done in December 2021. His exports were PNGs. Using the native viewer, and after he switched to 2D 360, they all viewed fine. For me, every PNG with various settings just shows a black image. It will "preview" it just fine in 2D (showing it as a panorama and "VR Image"), but when I switch it to 2D 360 (which is what he recommended as the export, not 3D) it wouldn't display.
Decided to try JPEG exports and they work just fine. Going through a bunch of single pano render tests now with JPEG (4k, 8k, 16k) and they are all displaying properly. But not one PNG export will. Not sure if this is a TM or Quest issue since it seemed to work for him in December. Or Im just doing something wrong in the export, which I would lean towards :P
Hello ,
Thank you for posting in the community your question and for your patience while I looked into the videos and tutorial you were referencing. I believe you were looking at Video 3 and 4 on this playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-qDTLDChBlkIGUxPB2WCtubMXeIOV0TM
The VR Animation player works with JPEG but not PNG with the most current update: https://www.oculus.com/experiences/quest/2515021945210953/
In his video he is using an older version of the VR Animation player which could be why the PNG might have worked. You might be able to contact VR Animation player for further support as this is specific to their software and might be able to provide further input why PNG format is nor working on that app. I was able to reproduce the same behavior on my end as well.
Please use JPEG format with VR Animation Player to avoid those black screen issues.
Kind regards,
Vincent B.
Ahhh ok, makes sense that its a Quest issue. Just wanted to double check. Thanks for the clarification!
