[RELEASED] for UE4: Complete Sky and Weather System

It might not have been clear enough where to find information - if you click “Window >> >> Documentation”, that will take you to http://docs.simul.co/unrealengine, which describes the properties and what they do. page is linked now from the main Simul website, and also from the ReadMe.md in the plugin directory.

We have a way to go with the docs - I know there needs to be a lot more about how to use Blueprint, that will probably be the subject of the next tutorial - how to modify the weather in real time from Blueprint events.

looks great. But works only with modified engine source I see; you would sell much more if were a plugin able to run even on the pre-built version of UE4 downloaded from launcher.

Nice, thank you for the information

An installer to install the TruSky plugin into the, well, plugin folder as well. Perhaps once Epic finishes up the “plugin purchasing” functionality, we’ll see on the market place without the need to download another fork. Especially since I’m using an experimental fork for an accessory that my games will use.

hi
i buy the turesky, and i can’t Register with Simul at Register for a free Simul account - Simul
it always shows:

Error: You have entered an incorrect CAPTCHA value. Click the BACK button on your browser, and try again.

need help!

looks like and amazing weathersystem. I cant say £15/month is too expensive as its only 100NOK in Norway :) If I may ask, why dont you have a one-time payment?

Does the Plugin still hook into the rendering pipeline (I guess it needs to)?
Do I need a custom UE build for the plugin or can I go with e.g. the launcher binary download of UE4?
Does it play well with oculus rift?

please update to 4.7!

it’s there now.

i build the 4.7, but it is not really 4.7.

I have tried several times to register. You fill in the form and click submit, bit there is never a registration email.

With all due respect to , its just not worth it. We tried a trial, which was for 6 months. Took 30 days just to get it working with their version of UE4, and it barely worked. Then the trial expired and it has only been 30 days. You have to use their version of UE4 and that just not being consumer friendly. plugin should be just that, a plugin. We had 3 programmers looking at and in the end, it is just not worth the hassle. Emails went with no replies at all. It is a nice , the clouds and all look fantastic, but until its integrated correctly, its just not worth it.

if it wasn’t montly …it’s just a sky…the greed on some people is amazing… a game engine was 19$ month and they made it free and you ask 15$/month for a sky lmao

is out of their control since UE4 does not allow plugins to interface with the renderer, which is why VXGI etc. are on separate branches of the engine, rather than being available as plugins. Berating the company that makes for UE4’s (currently) limited plugin support is pretty unfair.

If you think it’s “just a sky”, then you don’t understand the plugin. Epic can afford to make their engine free because of the 5% revenue cut and marketplace sales. Simul don’t have either of those. If you think it’s a rip-off, go make your own solution - I can guarantee it will cost you more than $15 a month.

I have to agree with Dave.
The cost to develop such a on your own will cost you way, way more than $15. Also you only need an active subscription if want to change the sky, otherwise you can use it without an active subscription. There was enough talk about the price, so please don’t start discussion again.

I don’t know what problems Guedoe ran into, but I had no problems with integrating . I assume you used the correct version, so sadly I can’t tell you what you did wrong, since integrating is pretty straight-forward if you followed the instructions. If you got an error while compiling, post it and maybe someone with more knowledge than me can help.
Also, what do you mean by "We had 3 programmers looking at "? What were they looking at? I can’t imagine what you would need three coders for to look at.

Greetings,
Dakraid

Surprised you got a trial. I had asked for one to see if it was worth it after enjoying the videos and they sent me a copy that was locked so I couldn’t do more than make atmospheric fog. Figured if they didn’t want me to see what their program was capable of then they didn’t want my money.

the previous method of altering code before doing the branch was difficult. now with their own branch of the source it is super simple. been using it for a few months now and it is definitely worth the price. It is a superb plugin and definitely makes my jaw drop when I animate it and see it moving quite silky smooth in the editor.
There are some issues, but I think it’s a two man team (not sure) and for what it does, it does it well.
Buy it/don’t buy, just focus on the plugin and if you can’t get it working then post for help.
Their email support is very lacking but people are willing to help.

I just saw plugin and it looks REALLY very nice, basically everthing I would need for my game idea. I’m thinking of creating a flight sim within UE4, one in the style of Janes Fighters Anthology, JSF, or EF2000/F22ADF (the apex of the middle late '90s flight sim era). Within those games the player has the ability to generate quick missions of their choosing, select location, time of day, enemies, allies, type of mission, and also the weather. So my question is, would even work for the player when the game would be released? Since I’ve read that you can’t change the parameters if you have no subscribtion anymore. Well a potential player wouldn’t have that of course. And by what I’ve seen so far in the videos it seems that all settings I would give the player access to (cloudbase etc) are not changeable after a subscription runs out is it?

Hi Guedoe,

We don’t offer a six month trial, the trial for the indie version is 15 days, extendable to 30 days. We’d certainly like to supply just an installer. But Unreal Engine does not have the capability just now to call out to external renderers in the pipeline. I’m sure at some point they will add , it’s very common in game engines.

As you’ve had some difficulty, I’d like to offer you an extended trial of the plugin. Email us at , referencing thread, and I’ll send you a 60-day key if that will help.

Best,

Hi VentZer0, the only thing that doesn’t work without a subscription is the in-editor control panel. Anything you control with Blueprint, or in-game, works with or without a subscription.
