Recreating an effect from Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens


I’m looking to recreate an effect seen in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I need light shafts coming from an object very similar to those seen the Lego games.
The effect i’m looking for specifically is the gold brick light shafts. (As seen in the link below)

Any advice on how this would be greatly appreciated?

rectangular particles with an appropriate texture and their pivot offset. no movement, just rotation.
you’ll probably want to use depth fade to avoid hard edges when they clip into the ground.

I wouldn’t use particles, I would use meshes setup similar to this UDK | VolumetricLightbeamTutorial

There’s a few example Volumetric Light Shaft assets in UE4 on the blueprints content example map.
