Reconstruction Regions causing misaligned mesh

Hey All,

I’m fairly new to Reality Scan and having some issues with these extruded regions in my mesh. Usually I take this to blender to smooth out, but it leads to texture issues when reprojecting textures back onto the cleaned model.

If there are any tips or ways I can fix/reduce this, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Frosty

Thanks for reaching out. Those “extruded/spiky” areas usually come from noisy depth in low-detail / reflective regions, thin edges, or background geometry getting pulled into the reconstruction.

The best way to avoid texture issues is to clean the mesh before texturing, ideally inside RealityScan:

  • Tighten the Reconstruction Region (reduces background leakage).

  • Remove small floating components / isolated shells, and select + delete the spiky triangle clusters (often better than heavy smoothing).

  • If needed, apply very light/local smoothing after deletion rather than global smoothing.

  • Then re-texture from the original photos (preferred) instead of reprojecting from the previously textured mesh, which typically avoids blurring and ghosting.

Cheers
