I’m working on a game with a little over 60% of the maps are trees, bushes, etc. I wanted to know how to randomize the bark texture when painting trees in the foliage editor, to break up the repetitiveness. I successfully added a random color variation to the leaves. I just want to randomize the bark texture now. I made 3 different bark textures with normal maps. I was told I could use an “if” node and or “World Position” node…I’m just a little lost on how to put everything together. I sort of know how to do it, but some outside advice would help. Or if you know a different way. I would appreciate your help, and thank you in advance!
I’ve thought about using this for randomizing some foliage textures as well (not bark though), but not tried it yet.
I think you could use the PerInstanceRandom which should give you a random number for each instance.
Then plug that into for example A of an IF node, and let’s say a constant of 0.5 in B. Then just plug textures into A>=B and A<B and then plug that into wherever you want it (you’ll have to do it for each map you use).
Again, I haven’t tested this so it might not work, and at least you might have to change the constant value, but it should work.
Thanks for the reply. I’ll try that out today and post any results here if I’m successful for you and anyone else that may need help with this as well.
