Question on teleporting

I’ve noticed most games, and the VR example here with UE4, use a camera fade out to black and back in during the teleport. Is there a reason why? I haven’t been doing that and don’t feel sick or anything but because it’s VR and that sort of thing varies, I wanted to check to see if there was a real reason that is done.


I don’t think it is needed for comfort, but to me a very brief fade feels more polished. I think it can also help cover an LOD switch after teleporting, but I have no personal experience in that area.
