There was a question about timed Chaser lights,. It was answered for advanced users in image form only. (No explanation, no sample file etc) Which, if one is new to BP’s, looks like Alien Hieroglyphics. These sorts of partial, quick answers, leave anyone new to BP’s out in the cold without even a clue about how to get started. I can understand and accept that on the FORUM, but NOT on the LEARNING SITE called ANSWERS :\ Very unfair…
This image:
In the Material BP editor, I find NONE of the ‘things’ listed, there is no ‘thing’ called ‘Time’ there is no ‘thing’ (node? blob? chamfer square? ) called ‘1’, there is no 'thing called: GlowTime ???
Perhaps someone could actually say the steps required to actually build this ?? It would be appreciated…
you probably ought to just watch a tutorial, any tutorial will do, just to get overall feel of the material graph.
the ‘1’ is a constant. hot key is 1 + left click
the glowtime is a scalar parameter. hot key is “s”.
there is a time node. no hot key that i’m aware of.
if you right click you can search for stuff until you learn the hot keys.
also by default all nodes should be listed on the right of the graph.
if you dont understand something then ask a question as you have. the reason some answers are not fully explained is that they are geared toward a specific person and their particular issue, we’re not writing tutorials here. the other issue is much of the time the people looking for answers dont look for previous asked questions, leaving those of us responding to questions answering the same things over and over. oh and as for this being a learning site, its not, its a community site. unless you see a staff tag on someones name we all are doing this of our own free will and not getting paid to.
the things shown in the picture are quite basic things shown in most any material tutorial. if you dont know what they are then you should get some more experience from doing tutorials to familiarize yourself with the engine.
A CONSTANT!!! Thank you! I was trying ‘Variable’ and ‘Vector’ and ‘Parameter’ and ‘Number’ etc… I got everything else but that by myself, but it is always the simple thing that trips one up!
I got it to work THANK YOU! I have CHASER Lights around the bottom of a UFO going at REALLY Cool random seeming timing AND seeming to chase at the same time!
I have watched a ton of tutorials, I am expert at passing through character/animation elements of Unreal, I have worked in Character Animation for 25 years,. I just forgot how to get a ‘Constant’ and didn’t know what to Google even!
I ended up using the ‘Time with Speed Variable’ node instead so I could plugin each speed right at the beginning.! THANKS!
Thanks! Yeah I got the rest by myself (even using a ‘time with Speed Variable’ instead) but mostly just forgot what ‘Constant’ was called and didn’t even know what to Google so it all seemed suddenly overwhelming again… THANK YOU! (also, I always get yelled at for going to old posts and commenting (Necro??) or asking anything so I thought it would be better to make a new thing,. )
