Quest 2 + HDR: colored flecks only in right eye

On Quest 2 devices, when using HDR, even on a completely empty map (using UE 5.2), multicolored dots will flash mostly when turning the head, exclusively in the right eyepiece.

These glitzy scratches / snowy artifacts / multicolored flecks also happen on pure red, green or blue backgrounds.

It is highly likely that this is a bug in the framework, as it does not occur when choosing Reverse Landscape for Orientation in APK Packaging.

I am just not sure whether it might be from UE5 or from the Oculus OS. Should I open a bug report for both?

Mobile HDR is not supported on Quest Devices. This is a runtime limitation, so no “fix” exists for this.

This does not appear to be true, I haven’t found any official link about this at any rate, only that mobile HDR is “not recommended”. There does not seem to be a runtime limitation, mobile applications run just fine with HDR enabled, other than occuring a substantial performance hit. Yet it is still quite possible to reach >60 FPS with it.
And as stated above, these flecks do not occur with Reverse Landscape, which is tell-tale of a bug (and may assist in finding the resolution). I intend to report it as such once I’ve assembled enough details about the issue.

Well, consider my messages as your official link  At this time it’s not supported.

There is no reason not to look into this, the feeling I get from my testing is that it’s most likely something simple causing this bug.
For instance it seems to happen only on “pure color” backgrounds (black, red, green, blue, probably pairs too), even when they cover only parts of the view.
If inky black areas aren’t needed, then a work-around is to set a minimum emissive of 0.05 on everything.

Here are a few posts I found which appear to be talking about the same issue:

Pude mitigar casi al 100% al colocar un post process en la escena y erradicar el negro casi puro con esta opcion

I was able to mitigate almost 100% by placing a post process on the scene and eradicate almost pure black with this option.

Nice! I need the inky black, though :confounded:
