Hello, to publish an island in Fortnite, you need to enter tax information. However, this process can be challenging for users, and some who try to publish their islands might face issues with their tax details. To solve this problem, there should be an option to publish islands without earning money. That way, you wouldn’t need to enter tax information, and some users could share their islands more easily.
I think the main issue is the hosting costs. If Epic allows for Islands to be published with no monetization, I think they may need to charge the creator. How do you feel about that?

Yo! That’s my post
But yeah, it might be costly, but…
- Epic is a rich company
2. Why not make it free like other competitors?
Seriously, other platforms allow creators to upload at no cost! It’s not even required to make money off of it!
PLEASE Epic, listen to us!!!
I think this is not bad for Epic Games; on the contrary, it would be good. This is because Epic Games wants to pave the way for new games, and looking at the current system, almost all of them are the same type of games (like Red vs Blue or 1v1, always the same genre of games). However, if Epic Games introduced an option to publish games without earning money, some users could publish their islands, and this would create a huge potential for islands built with new ideas.
For example, I have a game called Find the Button where you find hidden buttons in a room to advance to the next level, and some levels have unique mechanics. However, I cannot publish the game due to tax information requirements.
I totally agree. It seems that exploiters and spammers are only interested in financial gains. Creators not seeking financial gains are very likely going to make unique experiences. ![]()
I don’t know how costly it’s going to be, but the cost will scale with the number of people, so it can get out of hand. Free services are rarely truly free. They could be making the money through ads, selling user data, donations, or other means. Each service provider figures out how they handle their finance.
There could be a legal aspect to this as well. Commercial work is subject to strict laws. Non-commercial work has more freedom.
I am not against the idea. I am just listing possible issues that Epic will have to handle. This will require commitment from Epic and the non-commercial creators. Epic may not get financial gains from it, but it can help their public image when they support educational experiences for example.
Maybe, for people that upload for free, they could restrict certain things, like discovery access or not allowing In-Island Transactions.
Most other metaverses let you make the worlds/builds you want first and then only let you cash out if you provide the payment info later. All games are already not monetized except by Epic paying people based on concurrent players and playtime.
The money that Epic makes from people playing Creative is that they spend longer in Fortnite and the more time people spend in Fortnite the more they spend in the shop, generally.
The Tax info requirement just reduces creativity becuase the it reduces the populace of creators to those who are only in it for the money and stops artists and creative types who just want to create beautiful and/or fun places for people to play for the sake of enjoyment.
