Summary
Hello,
I’ve been experiencing an issue with the Proximity Voice Chat (now called Voice Attenuation) feature for several weeks, and I’m not the only creator affected.
Since the feature was renamed from “Proximity Voice Chat” to “Voice Attenuation”, it no longer works correctly on published islands. Even when I enable it in my island settings, once the map is published, voice chat behaves like global chat, with no proximity effect at all.
Here’s exactly what happens:
I enter my island in Creative mode.
I enable Voice Attenuation, set the max distance to 10 meters, and start attenuation at 5 meters.
In Creative mode, it works perfectly — I can hear players getting quieter with distance.
But after publishing the island, the feature stops working. Everyone can hear each other regardless of distance.
I’ve tested everything possible: re-uploading the island, changing the settings, and even republishing under a different name. Strangely, one time it worked after I removed “Proximity Voice Chat” from the island title and republished it — but the next day, without changing anything, it stopped working again.
It seems like there’s a publishing or caching bug preventing the system from detecting that Voice Attenuation is enabled.
This issue is seriously affecting gameplay and player retention. My map includes “Proximity Voice Chat” in the title, and many players leave when they realize it doesn’t work. Especially during Halloween season, this feature is important for immersion and atmosphere.
I’ve also seen several other creators reporting the same issue on forums, so it appears to be a widespread problem.
I’d really appreciate it if the team could look into this. I’m happy to provide more info or help test if needed.
Thanks a lot for your attention!

Steps to Reproduce
1.Open your island in Creative Mode.
2.Go to Island Settings → Voice Options → Voice Attenuation.
3.Enable Voice Attenuation.
4.Set Max Distance to 10 meters and Start Attenuation Distance to 5 meters.
5.Test it in Creative Mode — proximity voice chat works correctly.
6.Publish the island.
7.Enter the published version of the island and test the voice chat again.
8.Notice that voice chat no longer attenuates with distance — all players can hear each other globally.
Expected Result
When Voice Attenuation is enabled and configured (for example, max distance 10 m, start attenuation at 5 m), players should only hear others within that distance range.
Voices should gradually fade out as players move away, exactly as it works inside Creative Mode before publishing the island.
Observed Result
After publishing the island, Voice Attenuation stops working.
All players can hear each other regardless of distance, as if proximity chat were disabled.
The feature works perfectly inside Creative Mode but fails on the published version of the island.
Platform(s)
Creative Mode
Tested on PC (Windows 11)
Affects all platforms when the island is published (players on console and PC experience the same issue).
