Hey fellow Unreal Devs!
I wanted to share an early prototype I’ve been working on over the past few weeks called Void Protocol — a multiplayer sci-fi FPS powered by Unreal Engine 5. The concept blends tactical gunplay with sci-fi tech, all wrapped in a fast-paced PvP experience.
About the Game
In Void Protocol, players are elite operatives trapped in a collapsing space research facility. You battle through zero-gravity chambers, unlock alien weapon tech, and outsmart enemy squads in team-based combat.
Tech & Systems Used
- Unreal Engine 5.3 with Lyra Starter Game as base
- Custom Replicated Weapon System (hitscan + projectile)
- Dedicated Server Multiplayer Setup
- Niagara for sci-fi muzzle flashes, shields, EMP effects
- MetaSounds for dynamic weapon audio
- Nanite + Lumen for high-detail corridors & lighting
Gameplay Features
Loadout customization (3 weapon slots + passive ability)
Team deathmatch and zone control modes
Sliding, vaulting, and jet-dash movement system
Energy shield with cooldown + visual feedback
Drone recon ability + tactical map
Current Progress
- First test map (Sector A: Research Deck) is playable
- Core networking stable at 60+ FPS on test server
- Matchmaking lobby WIP
- UI/HUD design in progress
What I Need Help With
- Anyone with experience balancing hitreg and lag compensation?
- Suggestions for map flow and level blocking in tight sci-fi corridors?
- Preferred tools for player stats + progression tracking?
Screenshots & GitHub Link Coming Soon
As soon as I wrap the UI for loadouts, I’ll share some visuals and maybe open early access for testers. Let me know if you’re interested!
Thanks for reading and supporting indie multiplayer devs!
Cheers,
