Project could not be compiled error

Hello

I was trying to tinker with a C++ actor in my project but since then I can’t open my project anymore as it states that the project module is missing or built with different engine versions. Once I say ok to rebuild the project, I’m told the project couldn’t compile and I have to rebuild from the source manually. I’m quite new to C++ so I don’t know what I have done wrong and what needs to be fixed.

I have attached an image of the solution of the programme and I’ve noticed that it isn’t registering the game engine and the programme in the code as seen in the image:

I am trying to figure out how to revert the changes made as I need the programme functioning by a couple of days as I have a presentation on it. Again any help is appreciated

Hello, based on the logs it looks like the problem has to do with “LiveLinkDataStream”. The error is occurring before compilation, so it’s not a problem in your code.
The error that’s causing compilation to fail is this one:

I recommend you search the internet on that error message.

Looks like he solved it by putting the plugin in the game’s plugin folder instead of the engine plugins… I don’t know

I have decided that this reply wasn’t the issue as I’ve added all the directory addresses but “Merlin_Coil” module is still missing. After searching some more I have discovered when I compare a functioning programme with this one the difference is this line of code doesn’t detect the inputs:


And as you can see from the bottom, error codes are coming up stating:
cannot open source file “UBT_COMPILED_PLATFORM/UBT_COMPILED_PLATFORMCriticalSection.h”
Merlin_Coil C:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_5.0\Engine\Source\Runtime\Core\Public\HAL\CriticalSection.

And this will be for multiple header files in the format “UBT_COMPILED_PLATFORM/UBT_COMPILED_PLATFORM(Different header file)”.

In the other functioning programme, these errors don’t come up and UBT_COMPILED_PLATFORM/UBT_COMPILED_PLATFORM IS REPLACED by Windows/Windows(Header file), so I believe I have to change this but I am still unsure how.

Thank you for the help, I am not using rider and am unsure how to use it to fix the issue. I have used this plugin throughout this programme and haven’t had any issues with it until I made the same error stated in this post: include - UE4 - Visual Studio cannot open any source file after I add new c++ files from Editor - UBT_COMPILED_PLATFORM error - Stack Overflow.
I tried following their solution but I don’t seem to have the option to select “Generate Visual Studio project files” and unsure where to go from here

Oh, Rider has nothing to do with it-- it was just another plugin that seemed to have a similar error.

When you open your UE project root folder in File Explorer and right-click the .uproject file, you should see the “Generate project files” option.

I managed to figure out how to disable the LiveLink plugin and it worked so thank you for the advice. I’m gonna figure out how to have the plug-in working while not having the error come up but I think I’ll make another post for that so two different questions are linked together

When I’m back in lab on Wednesday I’ll post how I disabled the plug-in just in case someone needs the same support I did and I’ll resolve the question then

So I’m back on my lab account and what I did to solve the error was open the project in visual studio, and then set the plugin causing the error to false.
