Problems with shadows and reflections in dimly lit interiors (Metahuman, directional light)

Hi,

I’m on 5.6 and I’m having some problems with my shadows and/or reflections. I’m not the technically most gifted so apologies if I’m using incorrect terms here and there.

This is the general, super basic setup. There is a directional light outside, the lighting setup is just the standard stuff from the “Basic” new level. All lights are movable and there are no lights in the “interior”

The metahuman character on the left has some subtle rect lights around them that only affect that single character and don’t cast shadows. On the character on the right you can see how odd these shadows are without any extra lights.

It also looks a bit like there is a semi-invisible second metahuman on the right side of my playable character. Overall it seems like the reflections are off as well. The grid material is just the standard MI_ProcGrid that comes with the engine.


This is how my GI settings look like.

The metahumans are the optimised characters, the one with the red shorts in high quality, the other one in medium quality.

I can’t remember having any problems like this in 5.4 or earlier and honestly I don’t know where to start investigating.

I’d be super thankful for every hint anyone could give.

There are also some very odd artefacts on her face that disappear once I go into the area that is brightly lit from the directional light
