Hi,
i’m trying to use UE4.19.2 for archviz and i’m facing some problems with mesh distance fields.
The object (the window frame) is modeled in 3ds max. It’s one object with welded vertices and no overlaps.
one UVW modifier in channel 01 for textures and one unwrapUVW in channel 02, for lightmaps.
I had increased the lightmap resolution of the mesh in 1024 (in which is red, if we see it in lightmap density mode)
and also i had increased the resolution scale of the mesh at 10.
In image 1, i had baked only with Area shadows and everything seems to be ok.
When i enable the mesh distance fields in project settings and also in directional light and i bake again,
i have some problems.
In image 2, we see that the mesh distance field appears to have problem in the hollow areas of the mesh
(even if i have resolution scale at 10)
And in images 3 and 4, we see the problem that appears. It’s like light leaks or weird artifacts in the mesh.
The same time, the shadow of the object on the wall, is just fine.
I don’t know what is this for. the mesh isn’t very big. it’s around 3 x 3.5 meters.
And also, does anyone knows, if the Area Shadows produce the same result?
If yes, maybe enabling and using mesh distance fields for soft shadows doesn’t worth it…
Thanks a lot
