If I have red for my Subsurface Color and White for the Opacity, why does it still tint my Diffuse Color a redish? Even if I use a texture for Opacity, with it primarily being white and black for the ears, it still tints the skin red. Is there another way to set up the material so that White doesn’t contribute any subsurface color?
I haven’t done much with the pre-integrated skin shader, so I don’t have an answer for you, but I don’t think your problem has anything to do with opacity. I think the SSS effect is cheated and not calculated based on opacity at all.
If you can, you might want to grab the Kite demo. They shader Epic used on the boy’s face and hands is really nice. Probably won’t work on mobile, but if you’re doing desktop/console, it’s a good reference for making nice looking skin in UE4.
Thanks for the tip.
