Post Processing Transitions

Hey. I am creating a water scene where there is a post processing cube under the water to simulate underwater effects. However, the change from underwater to above water is sudden (e.g. PP effects are on underwater and suddenly switch off once outside of PP volume cube). Is there a way to apply a transitional or intermediate post processing effect so that there is a smoother shift between being underwater to above water?
