Hello! I am new to use Reality Capture in couple of weeks. I have tried to import laser point cloud data (E57file) in Reality Capture exported from CloudCompare. After imported in Reality Capture, E57 file was converted to four .lsp file in RC. The point cloud data were not the same as the data in CloudCompare. The points were reduced in RC. Has anyone experimented with point cloud data from CloudComapre to Reality Capture? Are only 4 .lsp files enough for creating model in Reality Capture?
Hi B0354,
what kind of scanner was used for point cloud creation?
In CloudCompare have you done just ordinary E57 export using save? Which version of CloudComapre do you have?
In RealityCapture have you done the alignment and meshing? After alignment there is only sparse point cloud based on LSPs.
Basically, RealityCapture creates 6 LSPs from one laser scan position. If the point cloud was cut, then there could be fewer LSPs.
Hi @OndrejTrhan ,
I used Lecia scanner for point cloud creation and combined in a single E57 file. The version of CloudCompare is v2.12.4. I created TSL/GBL for camera sensor in CloudComapre and saved as E57 file. When I compare the point cloud data between CloudCompare and Reality Capture, the point cloud density is too different. It was done the alignment and meshing, but the model does not look good. I have found some tutorials that 6 LSPs are created as a viewpoint and also there are many viewpoints after imported E57 files in Reality Capture. Is there any kind of workflow from CC or other software to RC?
If you have Leica scanner, these should have the scanner positions written in point cloud. Also, it depends how it is exported from Cyclone (there should be option to set it). Is it terrestrial laser scanner?
Where are you comparing those data? In CloudCompare? If so, what were your export settings?
As I wrote, for one scanner position is created 6LSPs, when the point cloud wasn’t modified. Do you have more scanner positions? If so, can you export your point cloud as structured from Cyclone?
If you reimport that created E57 back to CloudCompare do you see the TLS there? For me it is without scanner position.
This could be helpfull for you: How to import any scan data to RealityCapture using CloudCompare and Faro Scene (How to create ordered point-cloud from unordered) - #13 by Anonymous_536f5f9e4b
