Please help a noobie understand Unreal Engine lighting.

Help me understand lighting a scene in Unreal Engine. I’m a bit of a newbie. I see lots of dials and controls but don’t have much of a clue what any of them do. There isn’t one that stands out as “make my lighting look right”. I made an imgur “story” here. Basic nub of it is some artefacts on the outside of the building up close, rather flat looking interior, then looking into the basement it all seems fully lit but there’s no way for the light to get there (it’s underground), so should be dark, apart from light leaking in from the entrance.

I feel there’s something very basic I’ve misunderstood about how to approach things and would be very grateful for any help you can give me.

Use a static skylight. Also, if your new, the first thing you should do is read the docs and look at a tutorial if your lost.

Someone on reddit pointed me towards Ryan Manning’s YouTube tutorials on lighting. I’m going through the basics now. It’s really good so far.
