Players get assigned to Team Even If Island is set to Free for All

Summary

Sometimes(not happening everytime) players get assigned to “teams” even if my island settings are set to Free For All . I even set Team Size from “Dynamic” to “1” in case it would still form teams(sometimes) and it still does. The bug seems to not happen consistently so There isn’t a “steps to reproduce” section . It purely happens sometimes when either There are several players waiting in the pre-game phase and then game starts and some of them or only one of them gets assigned in a team or it also happened when a join in progress player has joined the map. As a workaround I’ve enabled “friendly fire” so that they can still “play” the round because if not then the round is broken as if the last 2 players are in the same team the round can’t end as they can’t eliminate eachother.

Expected Result

Players should be in “free-for-all” mode but sometimes the game forms “teams”

Observed Result

The solo players are put in teams, as a workaround I’ve enabled “friendly fire” so that they can still “play” the round because if not then the round is broken as if the last 2 players are in the same time the round can’t end as they can’t eliminate eachother.

In the next video I’ve enabled friendly fire so that the rounds can end in case the bug happens ( so the players can eliminate eachother and trigger round end). Watch SameTeam | Streamable

Additional Notes

The bug doesn’t consistently happen , it can happen with either 2 players being in the “pre-game phase” then games starts and one of the could be assigned to “teams” or when a player joined previously the map as a solo and started the game/rounds after which a join in progress player joins and is assigned to the same “team” as the first player .

Also a possible different bug : When players either join/leave exactly during that period of “transitioning” located between the round end and new round start ( the period of time when in the right bottom corner the texts “Loading round” , “Starting Game” display)

If a player joins or leaves the match exactly during this transition, the game engine occasionally experiences a significant freeze, typically lasting around 10/15 seconds. This suggests the round system struggles to process dynamic player counts efficiently during critical startup sequences, causing a “hiccup” in the engine before the new round finally begins. The engine seems to struggle to manage player counts during critical loading phases, leading to instability.

This specific issue is a primary reason why many successful UEFN/Creative maps bypass the built-in round management tools entirely and implement “fake” or custom round systems to ensure game stability. The existing , core round system urgently needs optimization.
