Player reference device used for animations doesn't validate anymore

Summary

Old player reference device from creative 1.0 used to animate players’ characters doesn’t validate anymore since update 39.0 when trying to launch a session. This might be intended as it’s not really an official way to do it but breaks many popular existing maps.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Copy and paste (Ctrl+V) text from this notepad file into an empty UEFN project : files - Google Drive
  • press to launch a session
  • validation errors pops up

Expected Result

After pressing to launch session validation errors don’t appear.

Observed Result

Player reference device works as intended.

some major maps that already has been promoted by epic games use this function, it broke some BIG MAPS, they need to fix asap, same happening to me :frowning:

Same issue here, completely broke after the latest v39.00 update.

@lemmeball and others - one of our programmers just confirmed a hotfix this was just pushed live. You shouldn’t need to restart the editor. You can confirm in UnrealEditorFortnite.log the hotfix was applied by searching for this line:

[2025.12.04-16.57.53:398][350]LogHotfixManager: Hotfix file (ValkyrieSentryManifestHotfix.json) downloaded. Size was (4661)

FORT-1026761’s status has changed to ‘Ready for QA’. A member of the QA department is investigating the issue.

Patch uploaded correctly in logs

In my case, i can confirm Old Player References is back! :ok_hand:
