When using the Player Marker, an extremely obstructive visual effect is permanently attached to the player. The visual effect is horrific.
Steps to Reproduce
Use a player marker in UEFN. I attached the Player Marker to the player using a Switch Device. I then placed a Grenade within the Marker and have, “On First Tracker Item Changed,” triggering a Trigger Device. As soon as the Player Marker is attached, the visual effect is permanently attached to my player. Again, the effect is horrific. Also, Show Marker and Show Map are set to False. As are all other settings related to the visuals on the device.
Expected Result
You should not even not a Player Marker is being used. There should be zero visuals at any time.
Observed Result
You are subjected to a visual nightmare that engulfs your player. Super bright, nonsensical effects that consist of streaks and bubbles. It is truly horrific. Who designed that visual?
Platform(s)
PC for sure. (Possibly all)
Additional Notes
I am working with it on an unpublished island. Believe me, it has nothing to do with the island. Did I mention the visual effect if horrific?
This is still happening for me as well. I am utilizing player markers for the double pump effect I’ve been utilizing and I cannot seem to turn off the (horrendous) visual effect while playtesting unfortunately. This has been tested in both:
a) while loaded into a session with and without other playtesters and then hitting start game
b) while utilizing the private island code under private test version
Hey, FYI @xxKingYoshi you can disable Player Marker VFX (aka the Beacon) in the device details by changing “Beacon Style” to “Hidden”. This setting should totally fix your problem. I know your post is pretty old so you may have already figured this out by now.
I was about to post a topic about this, but found this thread.
@Fresnella This does not work, I have multiple player marker devices in my map, they are all on these settings. It disappears when the player is close by the physical device, but reappears when they move away from it.
Here are the settings, that are the same on all the devices:
Weird, @WSkibidiRizz ! Setting “Beacon Style” to “Hidden” works fine for me, even if I run as far as 40.000 units away from the device. Also, I tried matching your settings, with “Show Marker” checked off etc, and the beacon doesn’t show at all for me, even if the Beacon Style is not Hidden. I’m using an unpublished map, same as OP.
Also your beacon VFX in your screenshot looks different than mine. Yours has a big bright beam in the center, but mine has always been just thin beams and dots. Same for all quality settings. Not sure why yours is different. @xxKingYoshi what does your VFX look like, mine or WSkibidiRizz’s?
Regardless, I found a hacky workaround that might work for you or other creators. Try setting “Beacon Style” to Show(Direct Color) and then setting “Beacon Primary Color” and “Beacon Secondary Color” to pure black. For me, the black colors make the VFX look invisible. When I set the colors to black, I don’t see Beacon VFX showing up on any quality setting.
@Fresnella I think the issue arises from multiple player markers being active at once on one player (I have 9 total active right now), which could explain the bold beam seen earlier. Maybe something where the renderer doesn’t know which one to prioritize?
Anyway, I found the bright blue beam was from my graphics renderer being set to Performance. It’s on DirectX 12 now, and its not an issue anymore. As for the particles, I tried setting them to completely black, but it seems like Fortnite doesn’t care about what I put in it, and much rather keep them the default blue and pink.
Here’s what it looks like on DirectX 12 when all 9 of them are set to purely black with Show (Direct Color) selected… not great.
If you have any other ideas or if adding multiple to the same player does this for you too I would appreciate knowing that it’s not just me . Thank you for all the help so far though!
Yeah, I had these settings turned off, but the visuals were still showing up. I also had multiple Player Markers attached to a single player. I only had two attached to the player and it was still making the same visual.
I ended up changing my system up so only one marker is attached to a player at a time. With one marker, the bug is no longer present.
I think I may have found a fix
Change show marker to yes, icon to hidden and color to black. After that turn on Hide Nearby Marker and set Hide Nearby Marker Distance to 1000 Meters then turn on Hide Distant Marker and set Hide Distant Marker Distance to 0 Meters.
So, two months later and we just accepting this bug as Canon, I guess?
I just removed the Player Marker’s completely. Not worth it to risk players getting the hideous, game-breaking visual.
I encountered the same issue with player marker.
Changing beacon style to show (direct Color) and set both beacon primary and secondary colors to black with 0 alpha fixed the issue for me.
This may have alternative results when you have one vs. many. I have many. This may not be how it is intended to work but I used a combination of suggestions above to get it to work. Here are my settings:
