Plans for Mutable support with the new cloth simulation pipeline (Chaos Cloth)?

We use Mutable for runtime character customization.

Are there concrete plans—and a rough timeline—to support the new Chaos Cloth pipeline with Clothing Assets?

If so, which UE versions are targeted and are there known limitations?

Best regards,

Matthias

Steps to Reproduce

Hey there,

We plan to support it, but I don’t have a specific timeline to share at this moment. That said, I suspect it will be sooner rather than later. We have separated the cloth sections of Mutable into their own plugin, allowing us to expand that functionality in 5.6, so any improvements will happen there.

In terms of potential limitations, they will likely be similar to the current cloth setups, where, when combining meshes, you won’t be able to combine cloth directly into those new meshes and have them be separate materials.

Thank you [mention removed], could you just clarify what you mean by “combining cloth directly” and why we might want to do that?

having multiple materials with each their own clothing data seems totally fine?

Yes, that is totally fine. If you used something like extend mesh section to attach the cloth to a non-cloth, expecting it to maintain the underlying data that drives the cloth, then that would fail.

Dustin

awesome, thanks for clarifying
